v30.4: Think Before You Do-Over

Good morning folks,

-slurp-

Before I begin, does everyone know what a do-over is?  I'm sure we've all played games where we were granted a do-over when we messed up.  A do-over is simply defined as "A repeat of a previous activity, with the hope of greater success".  I'm sure everyone has wanted a "life do-over" at least once or twice in their lifetime.  What if you were given the opportunity to go back in time and change one aspect of your past, what would it be?

-slurp-

do-overI have done a lot of obtuse things in my past that I wish I could change.  Of course for every wrong that is righted in a past, the future changes; sometimes drastically.  What is the problem with that you ask?  Consider for a minute that your life doesn't just affect the people you live with or your family and friends; your life affects everyone around you in some way.  For example, that person in the car you cut off by mistake (or on purpose) on your way to work drove a bit more cautious after the incident which resulted in that person missing a fatal accident later down the road.  As a result that person was able to go home that night and spend the evening with their family.  That person's influence inspires their child to become a Police officer later down the road and that Police officer spends their life dedicated to fighting crime and upholding peace in the neighborhood your child (grown up) is living in with their family.

Now consider what would happen if you had gone back in time and made yourself a millionaire so you didn't need to drive to work that day.  The chain of events that would unfold could be disastrous, not only for you but for every soul that was affected by every soul you came in contact with.  Thinking about it too hard can make your head spin.  Thankfully there is no such thing as a real life do-over, at least not yet.

-slurp-

thinkbeforeyouspeakSo if do-overs don't exist, what is the point of this musing?  I guess do-over is a bit misleading because what I really wanted to talk about is thinking before you do something.  You've heard the saying, "Think before you speak".  You can apply that same piece of advice to every aspect of your life.  Think before you do, think before you say, think before you think and so on.

Life is a series of decisions we make, some of which happen in the fraction of a second.  Every decision we make has the chance to affect everyone around us so make sure you take the time (if possible) and really think before you do.  Think of it as a "Think before you do-over".

Well folks, a bit of a short musing today.  It was a bit more serious than I wanted it to be but sometimes that happens.  That's what I get for not thinking before I write. :)

Cheers,

Al
