v5.9 - Mr Smartie Pants

Morning Folks,

{slurp}

Welcome to the last day of May 2005! That''s right, look at your calendars and realize I speak the truth. :)

Tomorrow will be June 1st. The tell tale sign our year is almost half over. Christmas is almost apon us again (dear God) and the longest day of the year is quickly approaching. That too will pass and we will dive back into cooler days and eventually the inevitable winter months.

Funny how one person can shape the rest of your day and either put you into a good or bad mood with one sentance.

Last night Katie got home from work and we realized we needed some Milk and Bread (we were plumb out). She decided to run over to the store and pick some up. She returned a short time later with a box of Smarties (yes, we have BOXES of candy covered milk chocolate treats called Smarties up here). This wasn''t an ordinary box of Smarties though. Oh no, this was a special Canadian Edition box of Smarties :) It was done up in reds and whites and all the Smarties in the box were red (or so it looked like from the picture on the box). The front of the box simply said ''Smarties Eh?'' and it had a Canadian maple leaf. On the side it says ''Made in Canada eh?''.

I have mentioned it in previous musings, but our American friends don''t have the same kind of Smarties down there as we have up here. I''ve done some reading on the subject and the best way I can describe their Smarties would be like our Rockets candy (in the plastic wrapper). This was confirmed the other night when I was watching "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" on TV and one of the contestants had a "roll" of Smarties that his child had given him to help him be "Smart" for the questions being asked. Unsurprisingly, the man pulled out a roll of candy (in a plastic wrapper) called Smarties.

Who would have thought the two countries would have the same name for Candy but two totally different products? Especially when you think Canada and the US share good between each other all the time. A friend in our guild did a quick look up and found that Smarties in Canada were made prior to the Smarties in the US. Does that means the American''s are wrong? Not really. Millions of Americans are brought up thinking those candies are called Smarties. Well, in the US they ARE called Smarties. Just so happens that here in Canada we call those Rockets and our Smarties are like M&Ms except bigger. Of course, when Katie saw this box of Special Edition Canadian Smarties in the store, she HAD to buy them. Along with a normal box of Smarties, she brought both home and decided she would put together a package to send down to our friends in the States :) There is a running joke we have with our US friends in the guild about their Smarties vs our Smarties :) We agreed to send! them a box of ours so they could see what we were talking about :) I think this would be the perfect gift to send down there to them as it fits the perception the rest of the world has on Canada (eh?). :)

On a side note, I do a perfect Canadian impression on Team Speak when we play WoW. :)

Well folks, a shorter musing today as I need to run and take care of a few things here at work before some people show up. Yesterday we had some things come down and I''m trying to wrap my head around WHY corporations are so stupid. Wrong decisions are made and instead of taking the blame or admitting they were wrong, they just cover it over with more stupid decisions. I guess they can afford to do that when they make the amount of money they do. :)

Take care my friends and remember to avoid public pools unless you''ve had all your shots.

Cheers,

Al
